If you’re teaching students from grades prek to 3, you’ll want to begin with teaching high and low in your very first music activities. although those terms can be a little tricky to explain (and sometimes a bit confusing to young children), there are lots of ways to help them get the idea of high and low. This might be my very favorite kindergarten activity! i created this while taking pedagogy lessons with dr. timothy caldwell at central michigan university. they beg to play it, and it's a great activity to prepare and practice high low, as students have to figure out whether you are playing a high or low trill to wiggle their nose or tail. Lesson ideas. we listen to high and low sounds and move our bodies into high and low positions. some ideas for high low instruments: we emulate the sounds of a lion vs. a mouse and the barks of a big dog vs. a small dog. you could read the folk stories of the three billy goats gruff or goldilocks and the three bears.
